Half Highlights and Lowlights

Thanks to Lisa, Karin, Tamara and Terri for the good wishes for my Half Marathon. Will post a full race report, likely tomorrow, but really tired, so for now I leave you with:

Highlights:
- I finished.
- I did not come in last.
- The weather was beautiful.
- The Race was extremely well-organized.
- The volunteers were fantastic.
- No new injuries.
- My kids greeted me at home with two homemade medals, which I treasure more than any P.R.

Lowlights:
- While I didn't think it was remotely possible to achieve a worse time than 2007's Half Marathon, I came pretty damn close.
- Tummy issues turned my Half into Porta Potty Tour 2008.
- While the plan was to be fully rested, I started the Half with about 4 hours of sleep.

More to come. . .

Good job on finishing! Stomach pain isn't fun. I was worried that I'd end up with the same for mine and was relieved when I didn't.

Jenn,

I read an article in the health section of the "Chicago Sun-Times" this morning about a 15 minute sports warm-up that could help prevent ACL(Anterior cruciate ligament) injuries. I thought it was interesting and though it may not be one of your concerns, I thought it might be helpful in your training. The warm-up is available on-line at www.aclprevent.com/pepprogram.htm

The article is in the Metro/Health Section suntimes.com

Hey Jenn - Nice job on finishing! The weather was so nice. Don't worry about doing nothing this week. Take the rest & start over next week. You'll do just fine!

I just found your blog and I really relate to your profile! My "baby" is seven, I have a similar facade of organized on the outside/not so much in reality, laundry is my ENEMY, I have three little ones, and I HOPE to follow in your footsteps and run a marathon (maybe Chicago) next year or at least before I'm 40.

I look forward to hearing what went right and what went wrong on the half. Stomach issues on long runs plague, me, too.

Congrats on finishing the half and not coming in last! Not every race is going to be a successful one, so good for you for sticking it out. That's incredibly cute your kids made medals for you. Can't wait to read the full report of the half. =)
