Browsing blogs tonight as I wait for my daughter to fall asleep (again, please don't judge) and came across a comment on Runner Susan's blog about The Daily Plate. It's basically a calorie counter; that's what I need because I'm still stuck gaining and losing - - and gaining again - - the same five pounds. Running should help, but not when I run five miles and eat like I've run 10.
Speaking of running, I have been - - 3 miles on Tuesday, 5 miles on Saturday and 8 miles tonight (as soon as my daughter falls asleep). Not hitting 4 runs this week, but still getting the long run in (even if it is on the treadmill).
I went ahead and joined The Daily Plate; it's free and worth a try. Heck, if it works I might even be able to cancel that Weight Watchers Online membership I haven't been using.

I lost a LOT of weight(45 lbs) doing the WW Online so I really LOVE the program, but since I've started the real marathon training, I've just been eating sensibly because instead. I only have enough emotional fortitude for family and marathon training at this point. I've been eating healthy and doing all my training but I am stuck on the same 5-pound range on the scale, too. I have notice a big difference in how my clothes fit, though. I'm sure you have, too? I agree that it's very hard not to eat like a pig while you're expending so much energy running.
As you increase your mileage, don't forget to get ENOUGH calories. You need calories to fuel your runs, otherwise your body will hold on to that weight like there is no tomorrow.
I would suggest making every calorie count. Make sure you have plenty of carbs, which goes away from some weight loss schools of thought. But when you are running a lot, you need those carbs. I have the hardest time replacing fat with protein.
Good luck!!
Good luck on your goals this summer! Yeah, last year's Chicago was a bust. I was on target for a marathon PR, but was lucky just to finish. I'll be back this year to try again! Keep up the goal work on the blog! -r
Hey Jenn! I was wondering where you were. Its funny how marathon training brings on the "eat like a horse" mentality. I was thinking the same thing just last week. Its not easy, between family, work & training. Hang in there, better you get your training in so we can REALLY cross the finish line this year!
Karen - - Congrats with the weight loss! I've heard good things about WW online; I just haven't had the discipline to mark everything down.
Lisa - Good Point!
Russ - Thanks for stopping by and the nice words. I visit your blog and enjoy your race reports. Let's hope for better weather this year in October!
Jen- are you still doing WW? I am thinking about joining... I need such a swift kick in the arse, but I think I want to do the online thing...
Anywho... why is losing weight so hard to figure out??
Hey E! Welcome back from vacation! The problem with me and WW is well, me. I just haven't had the discipline to record my meals . . .and snacks . . .and other snacks. Good luck with it!
